1st Day of School

Today was the first day back to school! We had meet the teacher on Monday, but today was the official day back. They had a great day, and came home telling me all about their friends, classes, and bus driver! Max was upset that homework will be every day this year and he already has a math test tomorrow we had to study for. Megan said it was "no fun stuff - just a lot of work" - apparently they don't play as much in 1st grade! But, she had a great day anyway. After they got home, we had our dinner and traditional back to school cake! They just love cake and are happy with the funfetti :)

I'm glad they are happy with everything. I'm missing them already (especially Megan as she goes every day/all day this year!). The house was mighty quiet today! But Mia and I had fun with friends at a back to school breakfast...and 2 more weeks until she starts preschool.

I was glad for a new picture with them
and we all enjoyed the cake!
Here's to a great year!

Family Camp Out

Last weekend was our den's family camp out for Cub Scouts. Not much family camping here :) Really I was going to go, but Mia is too young, and when we saw the itinerary for the weekend of the activities, we thought it best I stay behind with the girls. Really. I was going to camp.

We have never bought a tent, so this time we purchased one. It is an 8 person (although fits 2 comfortably Scott says). They each had a queen air mattress and a fan. Much needed on the 90+ weekend they had. (I love camping in the heat, so really I missed out!)

Apparently Max thought it was great - he slept both nights like a baby!

On Saturday, the day was packed full of activities, like repelling and learning to make a fire, cooking their parents dinner on the fire, and roasting marshmallows for SMORES. Max didn't take to repelling. And here's why.

A big mountain. Max is afraid of heights..so he says. So after getting up to the top..not so graciously decided to hit the road (literally ran away in tears!). Scott found him later and convinced him he needed to try. So he got suited up - but nope..didn't go down. I personally don't blame him, although I think I would have tried. It looked pretty cool.
So instead, Scott took 2 trips down the mountain. And Max graciously took pictures! Maybe he'll earn a badge in photography instead!

At the Lake

This weekend we took a quick trip up to the lake. For those who don't know, my parents have a fun place (they live there in the summers) for us to get away and swim, boat, etc. Most of all, we relax, as there is not much to do but play cards and hang out. We were glad to have the whole family there this time - my brother Matt, his wife Lori, my nephew Matthew, and neice Katy..and my nephew dog Buckeye of course!

Even though it rained on Saturday, we managed to get in a swim, and have the inaugaral fire pit smores after dinner.

The funniest part of the weekend was our little teacher Megan, who decided she would teach her sister to swim. My apologies for the video as it was very windy, taken on my phone, and Mia's swimsuit malfunctioned, but other than that, these are pretty cute videos. Mia actually took to her and let her put her face under water and she jumped into the pool - both firsts for the summer! Maybe Meg has a teaching career ahead of her!

Texas Celebrations

This past weekend I took a quick trip to Texas to see my friends. I can not say enough about these women. They are amazing and insightful, and I miss them all tremendously. There has never been a time in my life that I had better friends than when I lived nearby to them! I flew in Thursday to see Kim (ok Kim..we never take pictures..next time!) and have a great dinner at Anamia's (our favorite TX restaurant).

On Friday, I helped celebrate Michelle's 40th birthday with a fun party. And on Saturday we saw The Proposal and shopped and ate. Happy Birthday sweet friend!

Most of the time I held this little guy, Brenner Oz James. Such a sweet baby. You forget how little the babies are..mine is 3, and he's way quieter and way smaller than her! I enjoyed helping Jenny out, although I don't feel like I did much. Next time I'll see this little guy he'll be so big!

On Sunday, we celebrated Jenny, the Queen of the Jungle (as she has 3 boys), and Brenner. It was a fun time seeing friends from our old church and catching up with everyone. I hated to leave for the airport, as it seemed like old times! So glad I could be there to celebrate with you Jenny!

Splash Pad

A few weeks ago, Mia's playgroup went to the Powell Splash Pad. It looks like a lot of fun for the kids - and Mia had a great time. She loves to get wet, and friends make it even better! Here's a few shots from her fun time!
