For Spring Break, we headed south – driving 15 hours all night to be exact – to St. Augustine, Florida. We rented a condo on the beach, had a car top carrier loaded down (Thanks Teri!!), and hit the road after the kids were out of school.
For the 1st leg, we hit horrible storms all through Ohio, WV, and most of Virginia. Roads were great through North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. We hit Cracker Barrel at 6:30 AM outside St. Augustine. Scott and I told the kids to play their DS’s…we took a nap in the cracker barrel parking lot.
After breakfast we headed into town, picked up the cold stuff at the grocery, and then checked in, and unloaded. Then we hit the beach and swam all afternoon.
The next day was spent doing much of the same. Swim, eat, swim eat, play, swim eat, etc.. You get the routine!
The first few days were relaxing and fun. The kids had a blast just swimming and laying around (and honestly Scott and I needed the rest!)

Love that you took a nap in the parking lot!
What fun! We haven't been over to St. Augustine in ages, but I have severe trauma memories of the giant creature that used to be at that alligator farm, Gomek, the amazingly huge crocodile: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gomek.
Looks like you had a blast! Come to Destin next time and we'll hook up! Ahem, way better beaches on the Gulf side...
