Fu Friends

Scott was in San Antonio, and while there, met up with some of our China travelmates - Kirstin, Leigh, and Claire. They were so gracious to pick him up from the airport, and spend a short time together. Mia and Claire are from the same area of China, and have some resemblances too. We are very lucky to share a special bond with them!

Thanks for being such great hosts! Scott emailed me this picture a little while ago, and I thought it was great! Wish Mia and I (along with Max and Megan) could see "Care" too. Mia will be glad to see Claire with her KaiLan pictures...she loves it too!

For more pictures, check out Claire's blog...

Kindergarten!

Here is our new elementary student - Miss Megan! Kindergarten is interesting here...the parents stay the 1st 2 hours, eat lunch, then leave them. I think Megan was ready when we got to school - but there were a few crying kids (and parents). I was not one of them - did that the day before and got it all out of my system!

So, thanks to a friend, Mia stayed home and played, while Scott and I went to Kindergarten! Here Kindergarten for Megan is Tues/Thurs all day, and 1/2 day on Friday. Strange I know, but actually I'm thinking she'll be tired and need the few days in between to chill out! Megan was so excited all morning. Even though I packed a lunch, she decided to use her debit card anyway. She bragged later to Max that she bought lunch and it was SO awesome! They all looked so cute lined up for lunch with their little cards. Mom and Dad ate with her and she saw a few girls from her new soccer team who are in different classes.

Standing in line for lunch!

And, Mom got the Camp Rock lunch...

After school, she rode the bus for the 1st time with Max... and the good big brother that he is - reminded her to get off (thank goodness he looks out for her! Tradition on the 1st day of school typically is cake - whatever kind they want - color icing, sprinkles, whatever. This year, Max graciously agreed that if they chose together (Funfetti cake this year) then they could have it on the 2nd day of school, since that was Megan's 1st day. So, cake for snack is what it was!

My 3rd Grader!

Today is the 1st day of school for Max. He was up at the crack of dawn, but super excited to get to school and see his friends. The bus picked him up at the driveway as usual, but this time we know the driver - Xander's mom! Xander and Max were together last year, and again this year. She told me we lucked out with the 3rd grade teacher, as she has heard amazing things about her! Makes me glad he's in the right class!

I can't believe my boy is in 3rd grade, seems like yesterday he was in 3 year old preschool. Time flies. Of course the 1st day pictures get more interesting as the years go on. You say smile, and they give you this...

Oh, and how about the crossing guards out this morning?

Old Friends!

Our weekend fun has been with special company from Texas - Mr. Richard and Ryan! The boys haven't seen each other in almost 1 1/2 years, and it has been great fun! They've played legos, seen the new Star Wars movie, went to see the Columbus Crew (prof. soccer) beat Dallas, and played Wii, and watched some Olympics. They are very busy boys. The girls have joined in on the fun when they can! Here are a few pictures......

Olympic Fever and Ending Summer

We remember seeing this from the bus...it looks a lot different now!

Most of our last week has been watching the Olympics. For us, it has been a trip down memory lane, and it is great to see how China looks in the summer. We keep saying - oh we've been there..but it is green now. Even the Great Wall looks different with beautiful trees, etc. in full bloom. We were really there at a DRAB time of year! It really is a beautiful country, and I think the media has done it justice.
I can't believe this is our last full week of summer break. The kids are ready for school though, and I am ready for a routine. Not much going on, we had a lot of lazy days. Scott's dad went to Alaska on a trip of a lifetime, I have a sinus infection, and the kids played, made an Olympic obstacle course in which they all received gold medals. Today they are looking forward to a visit from Texas friends Mr. Richard and Ryan. The boys haven't seen each other in about 1 1/2 years, so it will be interesting to see how they remember!

When we were there, 629 days to go...now it's here!

See this? On TV now, you can see clearly the island behind it.

The Great Wall - Winter Style. It sure is green now!

Big Girl Bed!

Last week we went to put up the toddler bed, and we were missing the sides. Somewhere in our moves they got lost...so we called the company and they shipped us 2 new sides at no cost. What a relief! So, yesterday the parts came, and Daddy and Mia had a project after nap time. Putting together the toddler bed! Mia was so excited she could hardly contain herself - "I help Daddy build my new bed" and "wanna see my new bed" was all we heard! So cute.

And just in case you are wondering - yes she slept in it last night - all night, and didn't get up until this morning. I went in and she says "can I get out my new bed now Mommy?". Perfect! I don't have to worry about her running around at night for now! Oh, and no we didn't take the crib down yet. It is still in her room...I don't have the heart to take it down after almost 9 years of being up.... call me sentimental.
Making her bed!
Sitting pretty!
Trying it out - with everything she sleeps with...
2 elephants, 2 blankets, and 1 Dora pillow, complete with the ladybug comforter. Everything needed to complete the bed!
